A classic tale of horror and fantastical romance by Latin American literary master Carlos Fuentes, which we will read in conjunction with the California Center for the Book’s Mosaico de Literatura program. Felipe Montero is employed in the house of an aged widow to edit her deceased husband’s memoirs. Felipe meets her beautiful niece, Aura. His passion for Aura and his discovery of the true relationship between Aura and her aunt propel the story to its extraordinary conclusion. Note that City Council member Francisco Zermeno will lead a discussion of this book in Spanish on Monday, November 25. See details below.

110 in the Shade

November 8 2013

Book by N. Richard Nash
Music by Harvey Schmidt
Lyrics by Tom Jones

Directed by Nancy Engle
November 14th thru December 8th, 2013

Douglas Morrisson Theatre

1099 E St., Hayward, CA 94541

Based on Nash’s classic play The Rainmaker, 110 in the Shade tells the story of Lizzie Curry, a love-starved woman living with her family on a rain-starved ranch in the American southwest. Filled with achingly beautiful music and dynamic dance numbers (originally choreographed by Agnes de Mille), 110 in the Shade is a heartfelt musical romance you don’t want to miss.
